About Artemis

Artemis Defense Institute

Artemis Defense Institute (ADI) is a unique firearm training facility, blending live-fire training with a state-of-the-art indoor video simulation training lab to offer a comprehensive, expert-driven curriculum fueled by highly qualified staff from both law enforcement and military backgrounds.

Our owners and trainers eat, sleep, and breathe current firearm tactical skills, policy, and products, as well as critical broader skills such as situational awareness, use-of-force judgment, and emergency tactical medical intervention.

ADI has a local, state, and increasingly national reputation among law enforcement and firearm industry professionals for being the most advanced and dedicated firearms training facility in the industry. This is due in no small part to the industry relationships, curriculum direction, and hands-on training provided by co-owner Steven Lieberman, an attorney specializing in use-of-force defense, along with the unstoppable drive and dedication of his wife and co-owner, Sandy Lieberman.

ADI acknowledges that anyone can teach someone to shoot a firearm.  But knowing how to shoot doesn’t keep you from making fatal, life-altering mistakes.  That’s why ADI’s entire curriculum exists within the larger purpose of teaching you how to THINK and MAKE RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS. That means training frequently, consistently, and with purpose to build the psychological and muscle memory necessary to respond effectively in the face of a deadly threat.

To support the need to train properly, ADI’s membership program offers a tiered solution to meet the needs of every shooter – all at an affordable price. While membership is not mandatory (you can enroll in classes individually), membership provides the consistent training that is the cornerstone of a commitment to being truly prepared to defend yourself and your loved ones.

Meet Sandy & Steven

Founder and Co-Owners of Artemis Defense Institute Steven and Sandy Lieberman

After successfully launching their eldest into college in 2011, Sandy found herself wanting a change from running her successful tutoring company and Steven found himself unhappy serving as corporate counsel.  It seemed a perfect time to launch something new together, but what?

Sandy is passionate about educating people, having focused her tutoring company on teaching children HOW to learn.  And Steven has been passionate about guns and hunting since he was first exposed to them as a Boy Scout.  So, how about starting a firearm training business? A perfect compromise.

They did a bit of research and discovered a company that provided law enforcement agencies with a video-based simulation training system. “Would citizens be interested in this training?” they wondered.

So they set off to Arizona for a demonstration, and were blown away by the training possibilities.  They immediately bought an intro-level system, set it up in their home, and invited their gun-owning friends to try it.  The response was overwhelming, and just three months later they had leased a building and bought the intermediate and advanced training systems as well.

At the same time, Steven was recruited by a lifelong friend into the U.S. Army JAG Corps, with the California State Military Reserve.  He also started a private law practice with that same friend, specializing in use-of-force defense.

Steven and Sandy have built Artemis into the truly unique training institute it is today. Sandy’s passion for learning ensures that the curriculum is exceptionally designed and expertly delivered, and that it constantly evolves to meet client needs.  Steven’s love of firearms permeates all aspects the business while his passion for firearm law, and his clients’ responsibility to follow it, is emphasized throughout the curriculum.

The result is a vibrant, successful business that has caught the attention of firearm industry professionals nationwide. While their professional relationships expand and their reputation continues to grow, Steven and Sandy’s warm personalities and desire to serve continue to foster a welcoming, close-knit business in which clients become like extended family.
