January 6

“Your client brought a loaded magazine to the airport!”

“As I told you, we are not arguing he did it… we explained it was unintentional.  He did not realize he had it in his bag.”

“You want a plea offer? Fine… I’ll give you a plea offer!  30 days in jail!”

“What?  You want a surgeon to cancel his surgeries to do time in jail?!?  For a magazine?!  There is an argument he didn’t even actually break the law!  This statute has a mens rea component.  He did not bring the magazine to the airport intentionally; he did it negligently!”

“He could have killed someone!”

“How?  Throw the magazine?”

That is an actual conversation we had with a city attorney regarding one of our clients.  (Fortunately, in the end, the case was correctly dismissed.)  I would like to tell you the city attorney was just doing his job.  I would like to tell you he legitimately did not understand the facts of the case, and when he realized what they were, he quickly changed his position.  I would like to tell you he was a professional of above-average intelligence and passionate about justice.  None of those are true.  He was, and I suspect continues to be, an idiot with a personal agenda, and a thoroughly noxious human.

Memories of his idiocy and arrogance came back to me today as I watched the recap of the President and Vice President’s remarks on the Jan 6th trespass at the Capitol.

Hyperbole is irritating and hypocrisy is insufferable.

Both seem to be the animating principles of this Administration.

According to the Administration, the Mandarins, and their useful idiots in the legacy media, January 6th was the most egregious event to ever befall the American Government.  (Evidently, Shay’s Rebellion, the shelling Fort Sumter, the Civil War, and the Pensioners March on Washington were mere blips in the historical tapestry.)

Vice President Harris said that December 7th 1941, September 11th 2001, and January 6th 2021 will all be days that live in infamy.

Good God!  Does she write this herself?  Does she not have a shred of self-consciousness?

They are shocked!  Shocked… that anyone would question the legitimacy of the Biden victory!  Doing so is anti-democratic, it is un-American… it is tantamount to treason.  Yet, we all remember the vitriol the Left spewed upon Bush and Trump about the legitimacy of their elections.  Hillary Clinton herself, the Grand Dame of Inadequacy, constantly referred to Donald Trump as an illegitimate president.

The press department of the Democratic Party… the legacy media, dutifully and slovenly repeated these accusations against both presidents.  Yet, when the narrative turned and a Democrat was now in power, all questioning must cease.

Let’s be clear… those who entered the Capitol with the intent of thwarting, through physical intimidation, the charges of Congress, were breaking the law.

Most, however, who did enter the building, were doing nothing more than trespassing.

Trespassing.

Yet, the Authoritarians would have you believe they were about to release vials of ricin in the Capitol.

(If you have arrived here from our newsletter, continue reading here…)

I’m not defending the actions of the trespassers.  Frankly, I really don’t care that much, though I am amused by the vapid exhortations amongst the authoritarians:

“The Temple of Democracy was breached!”

“They were defiling the sacred halls of Congress!”

Oh, shut up!

The government is not a religion, and the religious imagery is both boring and inappropriate.  The Capitol is the functional equivalent to the DMV, with slightly better architecture.

Here is the thing… there was a huge… and I mean really, really huge chunk of the population who thought the election was, in fact, fraudulent.  The Democrats did absolutely nothing to assuage this fear.  They manipulated and they engaged in extra-Constitutional conduct with state legislatures and courts.  They fought against transparency with their machines… and they never, ever explained some of the statistical anomalies that occurred with the voting count.

When these issues were raised, they attacked the questioner.

“Trump Supporters!”

“Right-Wing Ideologues!”

Sorry pumpkins… many of us were not “Trump Supporters”… and I am anything but a “Right-Wing Ideologue”… but if democracy has any chance of working, it needs to be transparent, and those who are seeking to obfuscate, clearly must have an agenda.

As we have moved away from the events of January 6th 2021, many people (including a boatload of Democrats) are now showing signs of buyer’s remorse.  The Biden Administration is autocratic, authoritarian, and, frankly, just not particularly competent.

Rather than let the angst of January 6th fizzle off into the distant past, they just had to go there.  They just had to tell half the country they deserve to be the Administration in power, and those who disagree with them are terrorists.  They just had to throw gasoline onto the embers of a smoldering fire.

These idiots are engaging in unbelievably irresponsible behavior.

Like the city attorney, I would like to tell you they are calculated, cunning, and they have an agenda.  It would be evil, but it would have explanatory value.  I don’t believe that.  I think they honestly and truly might just be morons.

Excellent piece, had me laughing out loud this morning…” Good God! Does she write this herself?”.

Sadly though, it seems that half the country falls for the truthless hypocrisy, and the wedge continues to be pressed in by the complicit media.

I just read an excerpt from my daughter’s AMERICAN HISTORY book for high school. It said the rioters were motivated to storm the capital from President Trump’s speech. I quickly corrected this for my daughter,. But the damage is done for so many.

      As always you are correct.
Every time I read your postings I long to find disagreement so it affords me an opportunity to debate. To my disappointment I find you agree with my own assessment of the issues. Other then capitulating to you in matters of law, it’s like you are reading my mind.
      I always enjoy your rants.
You need a radio show. Steven Leiberman the next Rush Limbaugh.

And now they want to get rid of the filibuster in an effort to hold onto even more power; get rid of the electoral college, pack the supreme court, change election laws . . . This could end up in a very serious situation if they don’t, and as I quote Senator Schumer, stop the “power grab.”

I think they know exactly what they are doing. That is why they are doing it. They want a one party rule. The new voting rights act. Out of control border crossings. Cancel culture. Free speech censorship. ETC

I have to ask if the “insurrectionists” were so threatening why did nobody lock the doors to the Capitol. The guards held the doors open so that people could enter. As always the facts do not fit the dialogue.

Appreciation for sharing these “Everyday” stories, as they are telling of current events in a way that supersedes so much of what the narrative news might say. I believe the country’s focus is….. out of focus! It appears we are beginning to distrust each other so much that our laws are reflecting a culture that is eating it’s own!
For instance, I would like to point our attention to these very recent actions:
    https://www.politico.com/minutes/congress/01-11-2022/insider-threat-prevention/
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/domestic-terrorism-justice-threat/2022/01/11/dfd8d82c-72eb-11ec-8b0a-bcfab800c430_story.html
    https://www.nraila.org/articles/20220111/nra-ila-asks-court-for-temporary-restraining-order-to-protect-california-gun-owners-privacy?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ila_alert

When taken cumulatively, and in context of what is going on in America, it feels like big brother is on the move in search of information that can lead to dubious results. Further, the manner in which these actions are taken seem to exist without much bipartisan efforts. That is a real concern, as America needs bipartisan efforts to be a nation of quality laws that serve our true ideals. Calls to defund police while at the same time focusing on those who might tend toward a police supporter mindset seems contradictory. What also seems contradictory is the privacy issues of Americans; It is not OK to share private information except for when one political party makes exceptions to that law. Crazy?
I’ll finish by asking some simple questions: Where is the Republican Party in all of this, for that matter, the traditional Democratic Party (at the National, State, and Local Levels)? Who represents conservative values anymore? How do these important legislative efforts seem to happen effortlessly by a single party in power?
The laws/policies seem to move swift and get enacted without much notice. I voted and deferred my decisions to quality leadership. But my fear is that the proverbial hen house is being guarded by wolves. Perhaps I am the sensitive citizen in this society. I hope there are many who feel like I do. I shall not disparage, but I am concerned about the direction of America. I’ll try to be the change I desire by commenting when and where I can in hopes of inspiring others. I’ll support candidates that reflect the values and beliefs that this great country has taught me. We are a nation of laws.

While I agree the folks we see on TV might be morons, or useful idiots. They are simply the public face for groups, who are cunning and agenda driven, but off-screen pulling the puppet strings.

Well said Steve. I truly believe that, except for two (Manchin and the woman whose name escapes me now) every democrat in power has their heads lodged. The scuttlebutt on the conservative news channels and on the street seems to be that the dems don’t stand a chance in the 2022 midterm elections but, be careful. I believe that the dems realize that their only chance of winning is to have mail in voting again which is why we will be seeing more covid variants, mask mandates, shut downs, etc. all the way through November.

Hi Bob, I think the person whose name escaped you is Tulsi Gabbard. Gabbard is definitely a dem I would personally vote for as president. I am aware of her 2A stance (not as strong as I would like) but I am not a single-issue voter and believe she would make a considerable improvement in the lack of substantial leadership we have long time seemed to be conditioned to. 2A is not going to do us much good if the entire Constitution is shreaded and/or the world is up in flames.
